Painting for  The 8th Annual Greeley Stampede Western Art Invitational, June 25 to July 6, 2008.

I am so excited about having been invited to participate in this wonderful event, especially because much of the funds collected will be used toward scholarships for graduating High School seniors.

Visit www.greeleystampede.org for more information. There will be the Opening Night Gala with the sale of the artwork and then there will be a quick draw where all the funds raised will be donated to the Stampede's Foundation for scholarships.

This is what I am currently working on, which is the Mexican version of a rodeo.Just started. Both of these paintings are 24 x 18, but I will also be painting a 24 x 36 and a still life which will be 12 x 16.

I took a break from the above one, and started the one below. Still a lot to work on, but having fun!

continuing on.....

24 x 18 oil/linen

I decided to anchor the hat of the lady to the edge of the canvas, because this painting is about the horse, not about the girl :)

Happy Painting!

This is what I am currently working on. I will try and post different stages. Unfortunately, this year I was not able to submit any work to the Greenhouse or the OPA. I have been so busy with the move into our new home and studio. So, I am working on paintings for my show in Santa Fe in September 2008 at the GiacobbeFritz Fine Art Gallery. Any questions, comments are welcome

January 27
Hi everybody.
Today is Sunday and my daughter Analucia came to my studio and asked me if I could paint her a big beach scene of our trip to the Rivera Maya this last summer. So I said, well, this is something that is different for me and might be a lot of fun. So I took out all the plein aire paintings I did on the trip and some pics, and I painted her a big (24 x 48) beach scene. I had lot's of fun, since I had never done a scene this big. It is still a work in progress, but I found out that ocne in a while it is so nice to try something new....so here is my Sunday Afternoon painting in progress.....(Today I hope to finish the above painting which I have now titled
"Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix" from the Opera "Samson and Dalilah". )

For those of you don't know this, I am usually listening to beautiful music while I paint. Mostly Classical and Opera music, so I write on the back of the canvas the piece of music that really got me inspired to paint this painting. In this case, it was the one I mentioned above. It is so funny how people are intrigued to listen to look up that particular piece of music. I believe that music has so much in common with art and it just uplifts my heart to listen to the melodies. Usually I will play that piece over and over as I continue to paint on the particular piece......
Have a beautiful week!

  Jan 31, 2008:
Well, I was thinking about finishing the hand that is on the branch, but my model is not here. So, I will have to wait until tonight to get her in position, because I really want to get those thumbs the way they should. So meanwhile, I will be working on something else. I will post it later. Have a beautiful morning!

I am going to put away this painting for a day and then look at it again and hopefully will be able to see things that I might want to change or correct.
If you have any questions/comments, please let me know.
Looking forward to another day of painting tomorrow.
